ACSA Leaders Alyn, Reed, Yasu, Frankie, Mine & Plane visited Doi Inthanon (ดอยอินทนนท์) July 10, 2010 to July 11, 2010 in order to coordinate and host a computer camp at Khun Klang village. ACSA Leaders set up four stations--Internet, Email, PowerPoint & Rosetta Stone--and lead over 70 kids and adults through each station during the 2 day camp. It was a great inaugural program for the Doi Inthanon Literacy Project. Here is what Alyn, IT Camp Coordinator, had to say about the weekend:
The IT Camp ran smoothly and was well received by the Karen villagers who came to participate. P’Nat graciously gave us permission to run our workshop at the Agricultural Co-op during the morning. Workshop participants were divided into four groups for four stations. Each station focused on the different uses of the computer and was supervised by two ACSA Leaders (Reed and Plane on Power Point, Alyn and Yasu on internet, Mine and Frankie on email, and Rachel and Denai on the Rosetta stone).
On the first day of the workshop, we had an early rise in order to arrive at the site to set up for our first two sessions. The workshop ran twice, ending just in time for lunch. For the afternoon, we were asked to substitute for an English teacher who was suppose to teach at the National Park Headquarters, but could not make it. After developing a lesson plan in 30 minutes, we led a 2 hour lesson for 12 students age 7 to 12. The students have been studying body parts, which we decide to build up on. We prepared an array of games and activities for the student to enjoy interacting by speaking and listening. On the second day of the workshop, there were not only familiar but also new aces that came to participate at the IT Camp. By the end of the last day, our ACSA team was exhausted, due to the short hours of sleep and the long hours of hard work, but we hope to be back on the mountain again soon!
